Emotional Changes

Emotional changes are common symptoms of pregnancy.  These changes may involve exhilaration to exhaustion, joy to depression, or happiness to sadness.  Some refer to these shifts in emotions as mood swings.

What causes morning sickness during pregnancy?

Mood swings or emotional changes are triggered by the rapid increase of hormones.  Additionally, emotional changes or vulnerability to changes are affected by physical stress and fatigue related to the constant changes and demands of pregnancy.

When does morning sickness occur during pregnancy?

Mood swings and emotional changes are most commonly experienced during the first trimester when the hormones are increasing the greatest.

How frequently does morning sickness occur?

Most women report that they experience a greater sensitivity and vulnerability to changes in their emotion.  The extent to the shifts easily varies from woman to woman and even between pregnancies for the same individual.
